What is thought leadership? Are you a thought leader?
To me, thought leadership is about sharing your ideas, ideologies, methodologies, frameworks…etc with others. This could be via a book, a podcast, a blog, video content, speaking, TEDx talks, teaching. It’s all about finding your audience and sharing your knowledge and expertise.
In this episode, you’ll hear the inspirational story that cardiologist Carmen Landrau shares. She’s a board-certified physician who specializes in cardiology. But, after having taken brave steps towards making a big change in her career, she is now a professional keynote speaker. Carmen uses her experiences in navigating a male dominated and hierarchical career to empower other women to recognize their talents, regain confidence, and take the next steps in their career and life.
Carmen shares how she handled imposter syndrome and really had to work on her mindset whilst establishing herself as a speaker. It was not easy, but it was not impossible.
We discuss:
- How gaining visibility takes time and patience, and why connections are so important
- Developing a speaking career – what’s involved, being prepared, working with a coach, and the biggest challenges to overcome
- Why it’s so important to know your avatar and key stakeholders – how do they want to receive your message and what resonates with them?
